We Love The 90s: Easy DIY Dunkaroos Dip Recipe!

Oh how I miss the delicious snacks of the 90s! One of them being the incredible Dunkaroos. While many of my friends LOVED the Chocolate dipped version, I couldn't help but always steer towards the Cinnamon Graham Dunkaroos. I've always thought they were discontinued forever, but according to the internet, They are very much still being made in the Canada factory that manufactures them. Being that I've searched everywhere and refuse to pay $13 for a pack of 5 Dunkaroos, I'm here to bring you an Easy DIY recipe for the Dunkaroos Dip with the one ingredient that makes it super sweet and many others miss!! First off I'd like to state that I tried this recipe the regular way with the "3 Ingredients" that everyone writes about, but I did NOT like the taste. I mean it was good, but did not give me that nostalgic feeling that I was hoping for. So I thought "why not experiment?" Being that almost EVERYONE has Vanilla Extract in the kitchen, I grabbed ours. We bring ours straight from the Dominican republic. I don't know if there's a difference, but it's what we've Always Used! The results? Oh So Nostalgically Sweet! What You Need: Funfetti Cake Mix 1.5 - 2 Cups of Plain Yogurt Half container of Cool Whip Teddy Grahams (Any Flavor you desired will work) 1/2 Teaspoon of Vanilla Extract Sprinkles Mixing Bowl Mixing spoon 1) Grab the mixing bowl and mix the Funfetti Cake mix, plain Yogurt and Cool Whip together. Be sure to mix until smooth leaving No Lumps ! (except the obvious Funfetti "Sprinkles) 2) Cover the bowl and place in your refrigerator. Let it cool for 4 hours. 3) After it has cooled, take it out of the fridge and add the Vanilla Extract. Mix. Taste. If you love the keep as is. If you want it a little sweeter, add another 1/2 teaspoon. Voila! Now you're ready to put it in a nice dipping bowl and dip your Teddy Grahams in. Nothing will ever be as amazing as the original, but this is surely a CLOSE 2nd. My daughter Loved the snack and I was happy to have a Trudeau FUEL Snack & Dip on hand so that she could take it to school. Did you love Dunkaroos as a Kid? What's another 90's Snack you miss? Dunkaroo Dip and Graham Cracker Waffle Recipe!

I've reached an age where I can say, "Back in my day..." and no one really flinches because I'm getting old. I grew up in the 90's, before social media, cell phones and an easily accessible internet. A child's popularity was based on what kind of snacks you brought to lunch and if you had the newest Lisa Frank gear, not how many followers you had on Instagram. In the mid nineties at my elementary school, only nerds brought fruit to lunch. I mean seriously who would bring apples or grapes to lunch?! The "cool kids" brought cookies, fruit roll-ups, chips, gushers, dunkaroos and anything sugary that could then be used to barter with classmates. How things have changed. Many of those mid-nineties snacks are no longer made, much to the dismay of older millenials. So we've turned to DIY versions of these nostalgic treats. There have been several recipes posted online of homemade dunkaroo dip and coupling that with my current waffle obsession, my wheels started turning. I started playing around and I made graham cracker flavored waffles topped with my not-so-skinny version of Eat Yourself Skinny's dip and sprinkles, because DUH. The dip: - 1 Cup of Funfetti or Confetti cake mix, sifted. - 3/4 cup of heavy cream - 1/4 cup of confectioner’s sugar - 1 6 oz container of vanilla yogurt. - 1/4 cup of your choice of sprinkles The Waffles: - 2 Eggs - 2 Cups all-purpose flour - 1 2/3 Cups milk - 1/3 Cup of melted butter - 1/4 Cup of brown sugar - 1 1/2 tablespoons of baking powder - 1 Teaspoon salt - 1/2 Teaspoon of cinnamon - 1 Teaspoon of molasses - 2 Tablespoons of honey - You choice of sprinkles for garnish First thing's first, make your dunkaroo dip. Whip the heavy cream and confectioner’s sugar until stiff peaks form. Combine the sifted cake mix, whipped cream and vanilla yogurt. Mix well until it's all incorporated then fold in sprinkles. Place it in the fridge while you make your waffles. Preheat your waffle iron. In a large bowl beat the eggs until fluffy. Grab all of the other ingredients and throw them in the bowl. Mix them until smooth. Spray preheated waffle iron with non-stick cooking spray. Depending on the size of your waffle maker, pour the waffle mix onto hot waffle iron. Cook until golden brown. If you're cooking for a crowd, keep your waffles warm in the oven until ready to serve. Top the waffles with a generous scoop of dunkaroo dip and sprinkles. If you're feeling saucy, you can make yourself dunkaroo waffle sandwiches by breaking your waffles apart. Enjoy!!

Skinny Cake Batter Dip {Dunkaroo Dip}

My love for frosting started way back when I was just a little one. My favorite lunchbox treat were Dunkaroos. They were little packs of mini cookies with a side of funfetti frosting to dip the cookies in. Forget fruit snacks and granola bars, I wanted Dunkaroos. This dip is a healthier version of my childhood favorite treat. The base of the dip is non-fat yogurt . . . I used regular yogurt instead of Greek Yogurt, because I was worried the Greek Yogurt flavor would overpower everything else. This dip is thick and creamy and does not taste "skinny" one bit. Your kids will love it and it would make a great after school snack. I loved this on days two and three, however, the extra sprinkles I added for a garnish started to melt in the dip. Unless you are serving this to a big crowd, you will most likely have leftovers for several days. It makes a ton of dip and could easily be cut in half if you'd like. Skinny Cake Batter Dip {Dunkaroo Dip} adapted from: Eat Yourself Skinny (Printable Recipe) or (Printable with Picture) 2 c. plain non-fat yogurt 1 box. funfetti cake mix 3/4 c. Lite Cool Whip, thawed Serving Ideas: Animal Crackers Nilla Wafers graham crackers apple slices strawberries In a large bowl, stir together yogurt and dry cake mix until completely combined and no lumps remain. Fold in Cool Whip. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least one hour or until ready to serve. Serve with desired cookies, graham crackers or fruit.
